Bayside Plans for Net Zero 2050

Bayside Council’s new Environment and Resilience team will have access to a Bayside Emissions Trackers as it explores the options for reaching a net zero emissions target by 2050.

Bayside Mayor Dr Christina Curry used a Mayoral Minute to highlight the work done by Resilient Sydney, and launch the Bayside Emissions Tracker which tracks annual greenhouse gas emissions by source and describes our net zero pathway to 2050.

“I am very pleased to advise that last week a Greenhouse Emissions Tracker was launched by Resilient Sydney,” Mayor Curry said.

“This tracker is a data driven tool that captures our annual greenhouse emissions for gas, electricity, transport and waste. It describes the reduction to Net Zero pathway to 2050, showing the incremental and cumulative impact of interventions and improvements under 2021 policy settings.

“The tracker is an internal tool to guide the development of our resilience strategy as we, in consultation with the community, explore the actions needed to reach net zero emissions targets by 2050.

“Our Bayside Resilience Strategy, which I’m pleased to say will be developed in the coming months, will reference and address each of the areas for improvement identified in the Tracker.”

Bayside Council is a foundation member of the Resilient Sydney Steering Committee.

Resilient Sydney is part of a global network, and is guiding 33 metropolitan councils to prepare for, respond to and recover from physical and social disasters.

The Bayside Emissions Tracker was developed by Resilient Sydney and its sustainability consultant Kinesis.
