Point King Capital (“PKC”) founders, Sam McKay and Harvey Carter announce their first growth equity investment , making a play in the trillion-dollar health and well-being industry with a $10 million investment on behalf of PKC clients in Inner Beauty market leader The Beauty Chef.

Established to provide long term growth equity to founders and leaders of outstanding global consumer and financial services companies, PKC is supported by a discrete group of investors consisting of best-in-class global entrepreneurs, and sophisticated family offices. “PKC looks for opportunities to utilise our expertise and resources to build powerful, profitable and durable consumer brands” says McKay.

The Beauty Chef, founded by former Beauty Editor Carla Oates, was the first beauty brand to focus on cultivating good gut health for healthy skin – pioneering the philosophy of “Beauty Begins in the Belly”. It is a philosophy that has taken the brand around the globe with launches in the US, Canada, Hong Kong and the UK. The brand is now available in SEPHORA, GOOP, Net-A-Porter, Selfridges and SpaceNK.

Oates’ own skin and health issues and that of her daughter’s prompted her to develop a gut-healing protocol. This led to experimenting with lacto-fermenting foods in her Bondi kitchen and the creation of GLOW, The Beauty Chef’s first inner beauty product. As the world’s first living, bio-fermented, probiotic inner beauty product, GLOW created a whole new category of ingestible beauty products.

“The Beauty Chef stood out as the pioneer in the category and is uniquely positioned for meaningful geographic, channel and product growth” explains McKay on PKC’s first investment. “We are passionate about the beauty and wellness industries and are confident our unique global operating expertise and networks offer partners the opportunity to accelerate the growth potential of their brand.”

“Carla is an inspiring and authentic entrepreneur, who is building a global brand with a clear and compelling story. We share Carla’s passion and excitement about the deep connection between gut health, beauty and wellbeing. PKC is excited to partner with Carla to pursue ambitious growth initiatives.”

The Beauty Chef Creative Director and CEO, Carla Oates said “I am thrilled to partner with Sam (who will Chair the Board of TBC) and Harvey of Point King Capital, who bring not only investment but knowledge and expertise. When I launched my first inner beauty product, GLOW, 10 years ago, there was no inner beauty category in the beauty space. At the time the idea of a probiotic, fermented powder for gut health and beauty was very left of field, so it’s exciting to see a significant paradigm shift in the industry. Together we are in a very strong position to expand our product range and take our brand further across the globe, while continuing to lead and innovate.”

PKC is passionate about developing high performing leadership teams and aims to deliver strategic, financial and operating insights to drive compelling returns for their investors and partners. Their investment has seen the appointment of former Jurlique Global Deputy CEO, Laurence Crussol as The Beauty Chef’s Chief Operating Officer, bringing with her deep global expertise and thinking to drive business growth. “I worked closely with Laurence during my time at Jurlique and I am thrilled that she has joined The Beauty Chef as COO to partner with Carla on the leadership of the business” says McKay.
