Bigger, better TTP Park ‘n’ Ride opens for business

Hundreds of new parking spaces at a major transport hub will be available from tomorrow, helping make public transport an even more attractive option for north-eastern suburbs commuters, as construction finishes on the expansion of the Tea Tree Plaza Park ‘n’ Ride.

The $43.5 million expansion, which will open to the public tomorrow, has increased the capacity of the facility to 1200 car parks – an increase of 500.

It is part of the Malinauskas Labor Government’s investment in public transport infrastructure in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs, making access to Adelaide’s public transport network easier and more convenient.

The expansion has been long-promised, with funding originally committed under the former Labor government – before Liberal budget cuts put it on the backburner.

The new multi-storey car park – consisting of a ground floor and three upper levels – has been built adjacent the existing Park ‘n’ Ride.

Access to the Tea Tree Plaza Park ‘n’ Ride expansion is via the existing Park ‘n’ Ride and Busway Access Road off Smart Road. Vehicles can enter through the existing Park ‘n’ Ride and connect through a new ramp between the two buildings, meaning users will have a single entry and exit point.

This entry and exit point has also been upgraded, while the second exit lane has been extended along the full eastern length of the Park ‘n’ Ride & Busway Access Road – creating a three-lane roadway and removing the need to merge immediately into one exit lane when leaving the facility.

Car parking will continue to be discounted to $2 for metroCARD users. For more details on using Park n Ride facilities, visit the Adelaide Metro website.

I am very pleased to see work wrapping up on this important project.

This expansion will ease pressure on surrounding areas by providing more places to park.

This has been something locals have been calling for, and we’ve delivered.

The expansion of the Park ‘n’ Ride makes catching a bus, and using the O-Bahn, an even more attractive option for commuters travelling from the north eastern suburbs.

Along with Paradise and Golden Grove, this is now one of three Park ‘n’ Ride sites in Adelaide’s north-east. We’ll continue to support growth in this part of Adelaide by investing in infrastructure that encourages more public transport use.

While it’s later than it should have been because of Marshall government delays, we are proud to see this long-campaigned-for facility finally open for commuters in the north-east.

I have long been advocating for a second Park ‘n’ Ride here at Tea Tree Plaza.

The 500 additional parks are very much welcomed by local residents, especially those living closest to the interchange.

The second Park ‘n’ Ride is a vital part of our Government’s plan to ease parking congestion in the Modbury Precinct.
