Body Located After House Fire At Lake Macquarie

A body has been located during an initial search of a unit destroyed by fire at Teralba yesterday.

About 4.10am yesterday (Thursday 29 February 2024), emergency services were a called to a unit block on Railway Street, Teralba, after reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews worked to extinguish the blaze; however, the unit sustained significant damage.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District and the State Crime Command’s Arson Unit attended and have commenced inquiries into the incident.

A body – yet to be formally identified – was located following an initial search of the unit overnight.

Structural assessments continue to be made on the unit to ensure the structure is sound before the search can continue.

Inquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
