Applications are now open for the Cook Labor Government’s 2027-28 Regional Events Scheme, which this year has an increased total funding pool of up to $1.4 million to support regional events across Western Australia.
Cofunded by Tourism WA and Royalties for Regions, the annual funding program supports smaller and developing regional events to attract new visitors, encourage regional dispersal, and boost local economies throughout the State.
Regional event holders can apply for funding of between $5,000 and $40,000 for events held in regional WA between 1 July 2027 and 30 June 2028, with applications for the scheme closing at 5pm on Friday, 24 July 2026.
The $1.4 million in funding includes $250,000 dedicated to the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES) to support events that showcase and celebrate Aboriginal activities and experiences.
The 2026-27 Regional Events Scheme funding saw $1 million committed across 64 regional events, including renewed support for popular events such as the Dwellingup 100 and the South West Japan Festival, alongside first-time funding for events including Cuby GrooveFest and Wild Gravel.
The funding round also committed to supporting seven events through RAES funding, such as Raised in Big Spirit Country and Bunuru Festival.

As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:
“Western Australia’s Regional Events Scheme has supported a wide variety of wonderful and unique events over the years that celebrate our rich culture and remarkable natural beauty, showcasing the very best of the State.
“Growing the State’s tourism sector by maintaining a year-round calendar of events is a key priority of the Cook Labor Government’s economic diversification strategy, helping ensure that our State’s regional communities continue to shine and supporting local jobs and businesses.
“That’s why both the Regional Events Scheme and the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme are so important, as they support a dynamic calendar of events that draw visitors to explore more of what WA has to offer.”
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
“This program plays an important role in encouraging people to travel beyond Perth, showcasing the unique culture, landscapes, and experiences our regions have to offer.
“We’re also proud to be supporting the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme, ensuring Aboriginal-led events that celebrate culture and community continue to thrive across the State.
“By investing in local events, the Cook Labor Government is driving tourism, creating jobs, and delivering real economic benefits for regional Western Australia.”
