Boosting our strong sense of community – 2024 large grants

Wyndham City is proud to support 21 community groups with close to $660,000 as part of the annual Large Community Grants program 2023-2024.

The successful grant recipients received the funds at last night’s ceremony (27 March). The funds supported a range of projects, these included:

  • 33% Cultural Events and Festivals
  • 24% Health and Wellbeing projects
  • 19% Projects focussed on Mentoring and Life Skills development
  • 10% Sport and Recreations projects
  • 9% Community Support and Human Services projects
  • 5% Arts Development focus

The funded projects will target diverse population groups, including:

  • 15 supporting young people
  • 14 supporting multicultural communities
  • 10 supporting people on low incomes
  • 9 supporting women
  • 9 supporting older people
  • 5 supporting First Nations people
  • 5 supporting people living alone
  • 5 supporting people with a long-term health conditions or disabilities
  • 4 supporting people with low educational attainments
  • 4 supporting women and their children escaping family violence and
  • 1 supporting those who are homeless

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Jennie Barrera, said the grants were always in demand and awarded after a rigorous application process.

“We want to see the grants used in a way that reaches a broad range of people while also responding to community needs,” she said.

“The grants support objectives outlines in our important guiding plans and strategies like Wyndham 2040, Council Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.”

“We look forward to these community grants boosting and celebrating our strong sense of community in Wyndham.”
