The NSW Government will contribute $271,009 towards the upgrade of Yatama Park playground at Clemton Park, as part of a joint project to be managed by Canterbury- Bankstown Council.
Minister for Lands and Water Kevin Anderson said the funding came from the Greater Sydney Crown Lands Open Space Activation Program, with the council contributing a further $85,000.
“This program supports improvements to Crown land reserves in order to provide quality green open spaces, for communities to stay active and healthy,” Minister Anderson said.
“The Yatama Park project will transform the playground to include a range of exciting and stimulating play equipment, so that local children can have tonnes of fun while developing their strength, coordination and social skills.”
The upgrade of Yatama Park will include:
- Large new multiplay tower with enclosed slippery dip, an elevated crawl tunnel, and viewing platform reached by both rope-netting and steps
- New swings including a toddler swing, strap seat for older children, and 1.2-metre- wide nest seat for children of all abilities
- Action ‘Paris’ climbing structure with slide
- New shade sails and new multi-patterned ‘softfall’ rubber flooring
- See-saw rocker designed to resemble a moose
- ‘Twista’ rotating pole and another accessible spinner
- Short pathways made from stepping poles low to the ground, for children to have fun as they practice their balance
- Sensory percussion play area
- Water bubbler facilities
- Shaded picnic table, four new bench seats and large square seat for groups
- UrbanFiT fitness station including a cross-trainer, triple parallel bars, leg press, ‘lat’ pull down, chest press, and ‘nitro station 3’
- Accessible footpath connecting people to nearby Alfred Street.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said the improvements will transform the playground into a fun-filled magnet for families while also catering for other sections of the community.
“These upgrades will make Yatama Park a great destination for people of all ages and abilities, from grown-ups keen to exercise in a beautiful outdoor setting to children who can explore new play equipment and families who can enjoy picnic lunches on a shaded table,” Councillor Asfour said.
