Bringing People into CBD & Creating Jobs: Milestone at Manunda Place

Works continue to progress at Manunda Place, with the job creating project now at 60% complete having reaching its top out, or maximum height, this week.

The project has created over 250 local jobs and will soon house over 800 public servants, including operating as head office for the Department of Health.

Set for completion in mid-2020, the structure to level 8 is now complete, and the slab for the ninth and final level installed yesterday.

Overseen by the Department of Corporate and Information Services, the project is now 11 months into construction. Fit out works have commenced on the interior, including the commercial space on the ground floor and the installation of the curtain wall glass façade.

Building owner, Sandran, continues to meet their 95% local content commitment, while working closely with industry, the Buy Local Industry Advocate and government to ensure local content commitments are achieved over the life of the project.

Throughout November, significant progress has also been made by Hutchinson Builders on the Litchfield carpark site, primarily on external incoming services infrastructure in preparation for the 320 bay carpark which will service Manunda Place as part of this project.

As noted by Minister for Health, Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory Labor government is serious about revitalising the CBD, and this job-creating project is part of that plan with 250 local construction jobs bringing workers into the CBD.

“To see such extensive progress since the last construction update is extremely pleasing, and to have the building reach maximum height before Christmas is great news for the 800 public servants who will be moving into this state of the art building in 2020.

“It’s important and exciting time for the Department of Health to be bringing the majority of administrative staff together under one roof right in the heart of the Darwin CBD in a new purpose built facility.”

As noted by Minister for Corporate and Information Services, Lauren Moss:

“It’s great to see this large-scale CBD revitalising project come to life, with a fast-tracked construction plan providing an immediate boost to the economy.

“This $75 million project not only provides an immediate benefit to the economy and our construction industry, but longer term the building will be a great addition to the CBD, offering an environmentally conscious design, five-star energy efficiency, a rooftop garden and street level shading.”
