An ’80s music celebration, ‘geek’ gathering, national swimming championship and Filipino festival are just some of the events to receive support through the latest round of the Northern Territory Government’s Event Funding Program (EFP). The EFP is delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company.

A total of 41 events across the Territory have secured support totalling more than $1.5million, with several new kids on the block joining firm favourites such as the Alice Springs Beanie Festival, Chariots of Thunder Sprintcar Series and Darwin Fringe Festival.

Four of the 41 events were successful under the Mass Participation category, developed to support events that will attract more than 300 visitors who will stay in paid accommodation for at least three nights. Two were successful under the Major Event category, designed to support events that deliver significant visitor economy impacts and reach large broadcast audiences.

A total of 53 events applied for funding. Successful events are chosen by an independent panel. For a full list of recipients, and to receive notification when the next EFP round opens, visit [https://www.ntmajorevents.com.au].

Quotes from Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles:

“The Territory is home to some of Australia’s most unique events, and the variety of ideas presented through the EFP shows there is no shortage of creativity when it comes to thinking up ways to entertain Territorians, and encourage others to visit the Territory.

“Events contribute greatly to our economy. Research carried out on seven 2021 government-supported events showed they delivered a gross expenditure stimulus of $12.6 million, of which $8.4 million was new money. They attracted almost 20,000 attendees, with 20 per cent travelling from interstate.

“By supporting events like this, we are supporting jobs and creating opportunities for Territorians.”
