The Illawarra Business Chamber has joined local chambers in the Southern Highlands to welcome commitments to important transport upgrades by the Coalition at the weekend – and called on other candidates to match them.
“We welcome the commitments from the coalition candidate this weekend of $14 million for stage one of the Moss Vale bypass, in addition to funding to straighten sections of the Southern Highlands Line,” said Adam Zarth, Executive Director of the Illawarra Business Chamber.
“Moss Vale is a key economic and industrial hub for the region, but it is constrained by traffic movement through its CBD. This must be addressed in order to encourage new business to Moss Vale and to drive increased retail trade along Argyle Street,” said
Mr Zarth.
“This is a much-needed commitment to our town and the business community, and we congratulate the Coalition on recognising Moss Vale’s traffic issues. I anticipate even more local traffic – when housing developments come online – so if all unnecessary traffic is diverted we will have a safer more workable main street. I hope the other candidates match this commitment.” said Moss Vale and Rural Chamber of Commerce President Brigid Kennedy.
Steve Horton, Chair of the Southern Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Industry named progression of Bowral’s Station Street upgrades as a major priority and called on the major parties to commit to this important initiative.
“We call on a prospective government to provide funding so that Council can progress the Station Street upgrades in Bowral. This will support local businesses by improving the flow of traffic allowing easier access in and out of Bowral.”
