Business confidence bucks national trend

Peter Gutwein,Premier & Treasurer

In a win for Tasmanian businesses, our state has once again ranked first when it comes to business confidence and conditions.

The NAB business survey for December 2019 confirmed that Tasmania continues to buck the national trend with business confidence remaining strong and business conditions continuing to improve.

With 20,000 more jobs and 1,600 new businesses since we came to Government, our long term Plan for creating greater opportunities for more Tasmanians is working.

Today’s results are the latest in a long run of independent reports confirming Tasmania’s strong economy, backing our state as a great place to invest, work and raise a family.

It follows CommSec’s State of the States January 2020 Report released earlier today, which highlights that the Tasmanian economy is setting the national pace.

This stands in stark contrast to Labor’s lacklustre plans and Tasmanians have not forgotten the 10,000 jobs lost under Labor and the Greens, with an economy in recession and business confidence shattered.

The Gutwein majority Liberal Government’s priority focus is jobs and we know there’s more to do to ensure more Tasmanians benefit. We will continue to deliver our long term Plan to grow the economy, and create a further 10,000 jobs.
