Council is appealing to the public for help to track down two dogs that mauled a Maltese terrier in a prolonged attack at Tewantin on January 20.
Local Laws Manager Phil Amson said the terrier’s injuries were so severe it had to undergo multiple surgeries.
The attack happened outside Hibiscus Retirement Village on St Andrews Drive at Tewantin at around 10am.
Council is asking anyone who may have information that could help identify the two medium to large breed dogs involved in the attack, or their owner, to come forward.
It’s believed the dogs were mastiff-cross cattle dogs, one of them mainly white and the other a brown or brindle colour.
“The dogs only released the small terrier after his owner and a nearby shopkeeper tried to free the animal from their jaws.
“We’re asking anyone who may have witnessed the attack, or anyone who may know the two dogs’ owner, to contact Council on (07) 5329 6500,” Mr Amson said.
“The dogs ran off along St Andrews Drive, and witnesses report seeing two young girls chasing the dogs along the roadside trying to catch them, some time prior to the attack. In the interests of public safety it’s important we find these two dogs.”
Mr Amson said the terrier was slowly recovering at home.
