Four gang members have been arrested after a Police operation targeting gang offending was terminated in Christchurch this week.
Detective Sergeant Kate Taylor says yesterday Police executed warrants at five addresses, where four people were located and have subsequently been arrested.
“We also located and seized firearms and ammunition from one of the addresses.
“This operation is the result of significant investigative work by a number of workgroups and reflects our ongoing commitment to holding offenders accountable and disrupting organised criminal activity within our communities.
“Community safety remains a priority for us, we are committed to ensuring Christchurch remains a safe place for people to live, work and visit.
“We wish to thank the public for their ongoing support and information that they provide to Police, ensuring we can hold offenders accountable.”
Four people are due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today:
Two men, aged 23 and 32 have been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and participating in an organised criminal group.
A 32-year-old man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, participating in an organised criminal group and aggravated robbery causing grievous bodily harm.
A 36-year-old man faces multiple counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, unlawful possession of a prohibited magazine, participating in an organised criminal group and aggravated robbery causing grievous bodily harm.
