Calling community members with creative industry experience

Council is seeking nominations for community members with arts sector experience to join a new Brimbank Arts Advisory Committee (BAAC).

The new committee will help support the development and governance of creative projects in accordance with the Brimbank Cultural Strategy 2018-2022.

Committee members will bring arts sector advice, additional industry perspective and assistance in developing strategies and networks in the creative arts.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said the adopted terms of reference for the BAAC will guide the committee’s formation and operation.

“We’re looking for community members who have knowledge and experience across a variety of arts forms and creative practices.

“Brimbank is a city where artists and the community come together to boldly generate a connected, vibrant and creative neighbourhood.

“Joining the committee provides an opportunity for community members with a local connection, to bring arts sector advice to creative decisions made by Council – and help shape Brimbank as an arts and cultural precinct,” said Cr Congreve.

The BAAC will be made up of a mix of around a dozen Council and non-Council representatives including three Brimbank Councillors, a Council Director and two Council Officers, with the remaining positions offered to arts sector stakeholders and community members.

The BAAC typically will meet in the evenings approximately four times throughout the year and members will initially be appointed for two years.

The work of the committee may be broad, but its particular areas of interest include:

  • Public art commissions
  • Indoor art collection
  • Business and development of the Bowery Theatre in St Albans
  • Audience development across the creative sector

“We are holding an expression of interest process to call for people in the community who are interested in becoming members of the Brimbank Arts Advisory Committee.

“People who have experience in the creative programs of Brimbank, strong local community linkages and industry expertise across the arts, with experience or an understanding of the role of an advisory committee are encouraged to apply,” said Cr Congreve.
