Embrace the outdoors again when Paluma Dam’s campsite reopens today.
Bookings are now open to secure a spot at the popular recreation site – but there are conditions.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said visitors still had to stick to the stage two guidelines set out by the State Government.
“It’s incredibly important that we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 by sticking to the advice laid out in the stage two guidelines,” Cr Hill said.
“Bookings at Paluma Dam must be for members of the same household. Gatherings at the campsites are not allowed to exceed 20 people. These rules are in place to make sure visitors to the site are still practicing physical distancing while enjoying the great outdoors.”
Division one representative, Councillor Margie Ryder, said Paluma Dam was a great destination for families who wanted to enjoy the relaxed restrictions.
“Paluma is a wonderful spot to spend the day enjoying swimming, kayaking or paddle boarding on the dam, or even just to stop by for a barbecue,” Cr Ryder said.
“If you’re in the area, you can also stop by at Crystal Creek. Big Crystal Creek has the Paradise waterhole and Rockslides swimming areas, and over at Little Crystal Creek there is a great day-use area and a swimming spot that’s perfect for the whole family.
“With the cooler weather here it’s a great time to go for a drive and enjoy the sunshine. Just make sure to stick to the rules that have been put in place to try to keep us all healthy.”
