Capsized vessel located near Bronte, NSW

A vessel that capsized on the mid-north coast over the weekend has been located in waters off Sydney’s Eastern Beaches this morning.

About 2.30am on Sunday (26 January 2020), the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) detected a distress beacon registered to a cruiser.

A search was initiated northeast of Forster involving officers from the Newcastle Marine Area Command, Westpac helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft.

A 37-year-old man was located about 3.30am by the Westpac helicopter and rescued about an hour later by a small tender vessel from a nearby container ship.

The search failed to locate a 77-year-old man and has been scaled down.

About 5am today (Thursday 30 January 2020), Marine Area Command were informed of a capsized cruiser located about one nautical mile off Bronte.

The vessel was identified as the same cruiser that capsized near Forster.

The Police Divers attended and confirmed no one was onboard.

There is currently a salvage operation underway by the owners.
