The Carisbrook Recreation Reserve upgrade project reached a key milestone this week with the removal of the away change rooms.

This stage of the project is part of Stage Two of the project which will now make way for stage three to begin.

In October, Council awarded the tender for stage three of the project to Searle Bros Building Contractors.

Stage Three of the project involves the redevelopment of the existing pavilion which includes:

  • Female friendly player change rooms and amenities
  • Female friendly umpire change rooms and amenities
  • First aid room
  • Multi-purpose room for events and meetings
  • Office
  • Accessible toilet

The stage three works, valued at $2.3 million are expected to be complete August 2022.

Central Goldfields Shire Tullaroop Ward Councillor Anna De Villiers said it was wonderful to see the project continue to make good progress.

“Council is committed to see that the project is delivered on time.

“I was at the Recreation Reserve earlier this week and saw the big demolition machine parked in front of the old changes rooms and it was such a poignant moment for me, reflecting on the role the old change rooms played in the life of the Carisbrook Recreation Reserve. I guess that also brought home to me how sad it is to see the old go in order to make room for the new, which is also at the same time exciting.

“We all realise the necessity of upgrading and modernising the away change rooms, meeting current requirements in terms of basic facilities needed.

“Identified as one of Council’s Priority Projects, as well as a key project in Council’s Recreation and Open Space Strategy 2020-29, the redevelopment of the Carisbrook Recreation Reserve will deliver an accessible and inclusive modern sporting facility providing dedicated change rooms for females, and a community hub for the growing population of Carisbrook and surrounding townships.

Carisbrook Recreation Reserve President Troy Driscoll said it’s fantastic to see some of the building development take place.

“Whist it’s sad to see the old building demolished it’s great to that area starting to be cleaned up ready for the new complex.

“We look forward to seeing the project complete by September next year.”

In October 2018 the Victorian Government allocated $2 million for stage one of the project. A further $2,157,900 was announced in August, 2020 for stage two. Council has committed to providing $118,000 towards stage one and $220,000 towards Stage two, a total of $338,000.

The Carisbrook Recreation Reserve project is being delivered in four stages:

  • Stage One: Upgrades to the existing netball and tennis courts – court resurfacing and line-marking – underway
