CCTV vision released as police seek pair over attempted robbery in Burwood

Police are seeking public assistance after an attempted robbery in Sydney’s Inner West earlier this month.

At 11.20pm on Friday 5 June 2020, a 31-year-old man was walking near the entrance to Burwood Railway Station on Burwood Road when he was passed by a group of unknown males.

Police have been told one of the males stopped and demanded money from him.

When he refused, the man attempted to grab him by the hand.

The man walked away and was approached for a second time near the ticket gates.

He was not injured during the incident.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV vision of two men who might be able to assist with the investigation.

The first is depicted as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his 20s, with black hair, wearing a navy hoodie, grey tracksuit pants and blue runners and wearing a satchel bag.

The second man is depicted as being of Caucasian appearance, wearing a white hoodie, black pants and white shoes.

Burwood Police Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Pryde, said people have a right to feel safe walking at night.

“The man had only just finished work and was walking home minding his own business when he was approached,” Det Ch Insp Pryde said.

“We need assistance from the community to identify those responsible and put them before the courts.”

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
