Celebrating 30 years of Tasmanian whisky

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Trade

The Tasmanian Whisky and Spirits Association (TWSA), along with Lark Distilling, is marking the 30th anniversary of distilling in Tasmania.

Tasmania makes some of the best whisky in the world and our international reputation has continued to grow in recent years, to the benefit of jobs and investment throughout the State.

The 30-year celebrations aim to take Tasmanian spirits to more people, locally, nationally, and further afield, to increase sales and the size of our export markets.

Our Government is a strong supporter of the industry in Tasmania that comprises more than 80 distilleries, is worth almost $330 million, produces some 2.5 million litres of spirits a year and employs more than 300 Tasmanians.

30th anniversary activities include bringing top-name buyers, wholesalers, distributors, media representatives, key opinion leaders and investors from around Australia to try our local drams and offerings, in our natural Tasmanian environment.

There will also be a dedicated ‘Meet the Maker’ trade event to provide opportunities for Tasmania’s distillers to promote their spirits, the Tasmanian whisky brand and open-up more sales opportunities in priority and emerging markets.

In addition to the May events, locals and visitors are invited to celebrate the achievements of Tasmania’s numerous distillers and sample their whisky and spirits at Tasmanian Whisky Week, 8-14 August 2022.

The 30-year anniversary program builds on the advances the industry is already making through the development of the Spirits Industry Blueprint, backed by the Tasmanian Government. The blueprint supports sustainable distilling growth, innovation advancements, promotion and protection of the industry and Tasmanian brand amplification for the next five years.

A hearty congratulations to everyone for their success in the past 30 years, and I look forward to the industry continuing to expand and grow further in the next 30 years.
