The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to Resetting the relationship with Tasmania’s Aboriginal communities.
Today I had the privilege of attending the 5th Mannalargenna Day celebrations at the Tebrakunna Visitors Centre at Little Musselroe Bay in Tasmania’s beautiful North-East – a celebration of 184 years since the passing of a spiritual leader, formidable warrior and revered clan leader of the Tebrakunna Country.
This event was established in 2008 by the melythina tiakana warrana Aboriginal Corporation, and is an important opportunity for the Aboriginal and wider community to learn about, and celebrate, their connection to country through cultural performances, food, walks, tours, story-telling and discovery sessions.
I would particularly like to thank the members of the melythina tiakana warrana Aboriginal Corporation, Reconciliation Tasmania and the many volunteers and supporters for organising this year’s event which continues togrow in significance and popularity.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is proud to provide $15,000 in funding towards Mannalargenna Day and two other festivals across the state – the South-East Tasmanian Aboriginal Cultural Corporation’s Ballawinnie Festival at Port Cygnet on January 13 and 14, 2020, and the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation’s event in March 2020.
