Every five years, every Australian is asked to complete the Census on a particular night and this year that night is Tuesday 10 August.
Run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Census of population and housing, gives a snapshot of who we are, how we live and what we do including the economic, social and cultural make-up of the communities around Australia.
This vital information is also used by the City of Casey to guide us when making decisions that will affect our residents.
Council uses the Census data to plan for essential programs and services such as:
• services for parents and young children, kindergartens and schools, older people, homeless and our diverse cultural communities
• libraries who select books and provide community programs to suit different demographics and community languages
• the provision of health services, housing, family support, childcare and family support programs, along with other essential, local services.
It is compulsory for every Australian to complete the Census and it is important that the information you provide is correct to ensure that necessary services can be planned and provided for.
The data that is collected is de-identified, meaning the information you provide cannot be traced back to you. Organisations, including government departments, cannot access any personal information you include on your Census form.
