A powerful, online conversation series challenging Sunshine Coast business leaders to shift their sights and change their habits to a circular economy approach kicks off this week.
The Sunshine Coast Council series will start with a virtual event livestreamed from Malt Shovel Taphouse on Wednesday 17 June at 7.30pm and will feature influential changemaker Yasmin Grigaliunas, CEO & Co-Founder of The World’s Biggest Garage Sale (WBGS), and Michelle Christoe, Co-Owner of NightQuarter and Founder and Director of Food Focus Australia.
Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Peter Cox said the series was part of a broader program by council to encourage sustainability in businesses and homes.
“Living sustainably is about being creative and doing more with less that has a ‘win-win’ benefit for ourselves, our environment, broader community and our hip pocket,” Cr Cox said.
“Council is partnering with business leaders throughout the community to embed innovative sustainability practices, support new business opportunities and increase profitability.
“Sustainable living is core to our Environment and Liveability Strategy and this event series is just one of the many projects and initiatives helping to achieve a healthy environment and liveable Sunshine Coast.”
The virtual event starts what both Michelle and Yasmin hope is a far-reaching conversation designed to challenge the ‘business as usual’ approach.
Yasmin Grigaliunas is a circular economy pioneer in Australia, driving this industry forward by innovating, collaborating, connecting and mobilising multiple stakeholders towards a shared vision, all while providing social good.
“I am so excited to be part of this conversation and help Sunshine Coast businesses learn how to provide positive impact for people, planet and profit for purpose,” Yasmin said.
Michelle Christoe is a passionate business owner on the Coast who is soon relaunching the popular NightQuarter, an award-winning street food, night market and entertainment venue that is primarily made of recycled materials with sustainable workshops and demonstrations.
Michelle is currently empowering the community to practice their reduce, repair and recycle habits through the NightQuarter Repair Lab initiative.
“Sustainable initiatives are something I’m incredibly passionate about and I can’t wait to share my own learnings when it comes to changing the way we can all do things in business,” Michelle added.
