Charges expected after Port Melbourne scooter incident

An 18-year-old man is expected to be charged on summons after an 11-year-old boy was struck by an electric scooter in Port Melbourne on 7 February.

Investigators have been told the boy was leaving a retail store on Bay Street when he was allegedly struck by the scooter travelling south along the footpath about 6.15pm.

The boy was knocked into a wall before falling to the ground, sustaining minor injuries.

The rider briefly stopped before fleeing north on foot where he was confronted by witnesses.

The offending rider allegedly assaulted one of the witnesses, who sustained minor injuries, before again fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Public Order Response Team are expected to charge the Doncaster man with:

1. Drive in a Manner Dangerous

2. Careless Driving

3. Ride electric scooter on a footpath

4. Rider failing to wear securely fitted approved bicycle helmet

5. Fail to render assistance after accident

6. Fail to give name and address to injured and
