Charges laid after flag allegedly stolen, investigations continue – Double Bay

Three people have been charged as investigations continue into the theft of a flag in Sydney’s east last month.

About 2pm on Monday (25 December 2023), two vehicles stopped outside a building on New South Head Road, Double Bay, before the occupants got out and a flag was torn from a flagpole.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

As part of inquiries, detectives attended a Stanmore home about 7.30pm the same day and spoke to a 27-year-old man, the registered owner of a Toyota Kluger.

He has since been issued a court attendance notice for driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required, unreasonably obstruct the path of driver/pedestrian.

About 9am the following day (Tuesday 26 December 2023), detectives attended a Dulwich Hill home and spoke to a 37-year-old woman.

She has since been issued a court attendance notice for driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

They are both due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 5 February 2024.

Following further inquiries, a 27-year-old woman was arrested at Hyde Park on Saturday (6 January 2024)

She was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with larceny.

The Croydon woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 13 February 2024.

As inquiries continue, investigators have now released CCTV of a woman who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The woman depicted is described as being of Asian or South American appearance, aged in her 20s, of medium build, and long dark hair.

She is shown wearing a camouflage print bikini top, white shorts, dark shoes and a pink head scarf.
