Children’s Christmas service back at St Peter’s for first time in three years

St Peter's Anglican Cathedral

The much-loved children’s Christmas Eve service will be held at St Peter’s Cathedral this year for the first time in three years, during which it was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

Children are invited to dress as shepherds, angels, wise men and other characters from the Christmas Story as they gather round the crib in the front of the church.

“We are delighted once again to be able to welcome families to the cathedral at this special time of the year,” said the Rev’d Canon Jenny Wilson, who is in charge of organising the service.

“This has been a traditional and popular focus for the people of Adelaide on Christmas Eve and it has been sad we have not been able to hold it for so long. It is wonderful to return to normal and share the the Christmas message with children.”

And for those who forget to wear a costume, the cathedral has some spares.

The children’s service starts at 4:00 pm on 24 December.

It is followed that evening by St Peter’s traditional Christmas Eve program – a service of lessons and carols at 7:00pm and the traditional midnight service which begins at 11:00 pm.
