City asks for patience on grass maintenance

City of Greater Geelong crews are working hard to maintain grass, parklands, sporting grounds and other areas of vegetation following recent heavy rain.

The La Nina weather system that has broken rainfall records across much of Victoria and NSW has made it difficult to access and maintain grass and other vegetation across Greater Geelong.

The City acknowledges that the continued wet weather has restricted access to sports fields, grassed recreational areas, parks and open space and roadsides over the past couple of months.

The maintenance program can be delayed due to wet weather, as the potential for bogging of machinery can damage both the ground and the machinery, reducing the effectiveness of the service.

Director of City Services, Guy Wilson-Browne

We appreciate our community’s patience as our crews work to maintain our grassed areas.

Our crews are making the most of all available resources in an attempt to maintain the grass and other vegetation. Our mowing program is extensive, but it is difficult to keep pace with the heavy rain, grass growth and the wet mowing conditions.

Our team has been working incredibly hard, but it can take some time to work through the number of jobs given the size of our municipality.

With more rain predicted we anticipate further delays and ask the community to please be patient. We are working very hard to keep our natural spaces clean and tidy.
