The City of Swan has joined the Building Inclusive Communities WA (BICWA) project to provide vital support to local clubs and community groups to help them grow and diversify.
Now in its second year, the BICWA project aims to ensure all people, regardless of ability or background, can actively participate in community life and have a valued role to play.
Inclusion Solutions are facilitating and delivering the BICWA project, supported financially by Lotterywest.
The City became part of the BICWA project after a successful application process.
Clubs and groups will have the opportunity to build their skills, attract new members and promote social inclusion through a series of free webinars hosted by Inclusion Solutions from June to September.
The webinar series will cover a range of topics across four sessions, including governance and managing a committee, culture and values, conflict resolution, sponsorship, budgeting and more.
Each module will be between 30 and 45 minutes and will include a resource and activities to help clubs and groups put their learnings into practice.
Mayor David Lucas said the BICWA project aligned with the City’s commitment to supporting grassroots clubs and groups, which play an important role in the community.
“The City has a strong, ongoing relationship with local clubs and community groups who we engage with regularly and we are always seeking new ways to help and mentor them in any way possible to assist them to grow and expand,” he said.
“Grassroots groups are the foundation of our community whose benefits range from physical participation to positive mental health. We want to provide groups with the tools and capacity to thrive so that the City can remain a place that is inclusive and welcoming.
“Being part of the BICWA project is one way of achieving that goal.”
