City of Perth summer events calendar gearing up

The City of Perth is the place to be this summer with an upcoming calendar full of exciting sponsored events.

Sponsored by the City of Perth, ARTRAGE’s FRINGE WORLD 2022 will take over Perth’s streets from 14 January to 13 February.

City of Perth visitors will be spoilt for choice with hundreds of shows to see at venues including The Pleasure Garden in Russell Square, Northbridge and Girls School in East Perth.

On Sunday 16 January from 1 to 7pm, Northbridge will transform into a pink wonderland for the inaugural FRINGE Funday Sunday, supported by Lotterywest.

This free, family-friendly community event will take over William Street with three performance spaces, giving a taste of the comedy, circus, dance and cabaret shows on offer during the month-long festival.

Three thousand sqm of pink astro turf will be laid on the road stretching between Roe and Francis Streets for the funday.

From 11 February, Perth Festival sponsored by the City of Perth, will bring together global artists in a glorious summer celebration of people and place.

With a range of performing and visual arts, music, literature and films to choose from, festival-goers will be spoilt for choice. Plus, there’s plenty of free events to enjoy too, so bring together some friends and feel the festival vibes this summer.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said major events were critical for the City’s economy in attracting local and overseas visitors and the City aimed to provide something for everyone throughout the year.

“The City of Perth is proud to sponsor events which activate the city right through summer. We are the events heart of WA – a city that is flourishing, vibrant and thriving,” he said.

“Our city was alive during the festive period, with a great spirit in the air and many feet on the ground. Crowds were up 35 per cent on Fridays and 40 per cent on Saturdays with many coming in to see the Christmas Lights Trail – a staple on the City of Perth’s calendar.”

Through Local Activation Grants, the City of Perth is also supporting local events that encourage people to visit the city in February and March including:

– Perth Folk and Roots Club: monthly folk and roots performance series at Perth Tattersalls Bowling Club starting in February.

– WA Made Film Festival: 11 to 13 March – Palace Cinemas Raine Square

– LiveLighter Multicultural Festival and Food Bazaar: 19 March – Forrest Place

– RagPopUp in the City: 19 March – Perth Town Hall

– Japan Festival Matsuri 2022: 26 March – Supreme Court Gardens.
