City of Salisbury to showcase local artists during SALA Festival

The South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival has promoted and celebrated the many talented visual artists in South Australia since 1998. Creative and artistic residents can be found throughout the City, and some of these talented artists will have their artwork showcased across various City of Salisbury venues during August and September.

Exhibitions will take place at the Salisbury Community Hub and The Mawson Centre, while an online exhibition will be hosted by Twelve25 Youth Centre.

Residents will notice that each exhibition has its own individuality and charm, with the colours and styles likely to catch the eyes of onlookers.

At the Salisbury Community Hub’s John Harvey Community Hall there will be two exhibitions, with Mirror by J.Mones Art and Luna by Lyn Davies to both feature from August 1 to September 12.

Jahangir Amin, also known as J.Mones, is a visual artist from Afghanistan who lived and studied in Austria before moving to Australia. He has held several painting exhibitions in Austria, Bulgaria and Poland.

His main focus is on women’s issues in the world, specifically in Afghanistan. Mirror reflects the beauty and sadness of the world.

On level one of the Salisbury Community Hub will be Lyn Davis’ Luna. The exhibition will use vibrant colours and distinctive line work to help to express the deepest desire to be seen and the longing to be heard.

Just down the road, the Salisbury Art Society will showcase some of the City’s most talented local artists at The Mawson Centre, from August 1 to September 12, through an exhibition titled For the Love of Art.

Art society members have forged a bond that reflects their mutual love of art. This love is evident through their desire to create, experiment and bring beauty, deep emotion and joy to those who view their work.

For residents who are unable to visit any of the exhibitions on offer, the Northern Youth SALA Exhibition, hosted by Twelve25 Youth Centre, is a free online exhibition and competition held during August.

People between the ages of 12 and 30 are being encouraged to upload up to four pieces of artwork, with any medium to be accepted. Entry submissions closed on Monday, July 25 at 5pm.

EFTPOS vouchers of $100 will be awarded to the winners of the Mayor’s Award, People’s Choice Award and Judges Panel Award.
