It’s not too late for Cobden residents to have their say on the future direction of Tandarook Park.
Residents can complete a quick online survey here until Friday 22 July.
Corangamite Shire is in the first stages of preparing a 10-year Master Plan for the park.
Once completed, this plan will provide direction for current and potential future uses of the space.
Around 20 residents attended a drop-in session on Wednesday 13 July at the Cobden Civic Hall.
South Central Ward Councillor Jo Beard said the session was productive and thanked interested residents for attending.
“It is obvious that Tandarook Park is a special open space to the Cobden community.
“I want to thank everyone for their feedback and ideas which will inform the first draft of the Master Plan,” she said.
Cr Beard said Tandarook Park was a valuable public space since it was established in 1989.
“It used to be a quarry for the brickworks as well as a rubbish tip before being beautifully rehabilitated with the rose garden, rotunda, paths, toilets and barbecue.
“It’s a great place for gatherings – picnics, weddings, even funerals,” she said.
“Now it’s time to look ahead and see what other opportunities there are to meet the community’s current and future needs.
“There have already been a variety of suggestions including a cricket field, an off-leash dog park, a basketball half-court, free camp area, as well as better connecting footpaths.
“Some people just want to see little improvements, like more seating and some TLC to the garden areas,” Cr Beard said.
“We want to hear everyone’s ideas – big or small. Then it’s a matter of working out what is viable and provides the best possible outcome for the greatest number of people.
“Council has recently asked for community feedback on the Cobden Structure Plan. Any recreation-related feedback from that process that is relevant to Tandarook Park will be considered in this consultation too.”
The Master Plan will provide guidance and direction to Council in developing a plan to ensure that Tandarook Park continues to be a valued community asset while meeting modern safety and accessibility standards and best practice design.
