Commemorative services to mark 20th anniversary of 2002 Bali bombings

On the 12th of October, Australia will commemorate the anniversary of the 2002 Bali bombings which tragically took 202 lives, including 88 Australians and 38 Indonesians and injured many more.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong, will host a memorial service at Parliament House at 10am in Canberra, to mark the anniversary on 12 October.

Victims’ families, survivors, and first responders will be joined by the Governor General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), and former Prime Minister, the Hon John Howard OM AC.

Veteran journalist Ray Martin AM will be master of ceremonies.

A smaller commemorative ceremony will also be held at 8am (local time) at the Australian Consulate-General in Bali attended by Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Tim Watts MP.

To attend the services in either Canberra or Bali, you must register in advance at Commemorative services to mark 20th anniversary of Bali bombings.

Victims’ families, survivors and first responders wishing to attend the memorial service in Canberra or the commemorative ceremony in Bali can access a travel assistance payment through Services Australia.

Those wishing to apply for the payment must register via the DFAT website for either the Canberra or Bali event before submitting a claim to Services Australia.
