Communities Tasmania Dashboard update

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Human Services and Housing

The latest Department of Communities Tasmania dashboard update shows stability across most indicators and the positive impact of our Strong Families, Safe Kids reforms.

In Children and Youth Services, the indicators remain stable, however it is worth highlighting that the Children in Active Transition figure remains at around one fifth of January 2018’s figure, where there were 278 cases awaiting allocation.

This shows that the Strong Families, Safe Kids reforms are having a positive impact and resulted in a sustainable decrease of this indicator.

The Housing Tasmania indicators remain relatively stable, and the Government continues to deliver on its multi-faceted plan to deliver more outcomes for people facing homelessness and housing stress in Tasmania.

We are currently finalising our work with shelters to expand emergency accommodation options as we continue to progress key projects to boost supply of long-term social housing.

Our recent announcement of a long term extension of our agreements with Community Housing Providers as well as the transfer of management of a further 2000 properties to these providers will ensure certainty for the sector while also increasing the supply of social housing.

Communities Tasmania continues to play a lead role in the Government’s response to COVID-19, providing important social support for Tasmanians affected by the virus and continuing to deliver critical services in partnership with community sector organisations.

The Tasmanian Government’s priority during the coronavirus emergency is to keep Tasmanians safe and secure, provide support to the most vulnerable, and ensure our economy is prepared for recovery. If we stick to the rules of social distancing and staying home, we will save lives and get through these tough times together.
