In starting the preparations for next year’s budget, Campaspe Shire Council is calling on the community to put forward any proposals for consideration now.
Mayor, Cr Chrissy Weller said preparing the Annual Budget is an essential part of local government’s work, it’s a challenging balancing act – weighing up the cost of delivering services, meeting legal requirements, maintaining community assets, responding to community expectations, and then determining how it all will be paid for.
“We need to be financially responsible and deliver a budget within the State Government rate cap, while maintaining a vast array of assets, delivering the 100 plus services, managing community facilities, and more,” Cr Weller said.
“Much of our expenditure is committed to funding a diverse range of services, such as road, footpath and drainage maintenance, children’s services, planning and building approvals and library services.
“We are keen for the community to have input by nominating ideas on things you think we have missed, or you would like us to exclude into the future.”
The information will then be considered as part of building a draft budget, which will be released for comment in April next year, and we’ll let you know the outcome of your proposal.
“While we are calling for ideas now before we start the process, the community will still have an opportunity to have a say once a draft budget is prepared,” the Mayor added.
“The draft budget allows for a 28 day submission period, the option to speak to your submission, prior to Council finalising and adopting the document before 30 June.”
To assist in lodging an idea, a quick online form is available on Council’s website. Proposals can be lodged up to 5pm on Friday, 14 January.
