Do you want to help the City of Logan get back on its feet after a disaster strikes?

Logan Local Disaster Management Group chairperson, Mayor Darren Power said residents could help their neighbours and build resilience through the new Logan Community Champion program.

“When events such as floods, storms or bushfires happen, the impacts are wide-reaching and can be felt for months or years,” Councillor Power said.

“Our community collectively hurts in the aftermath of a disaster and people want to help but often don’t know how.

“By becoming a volunteer Logan Community Champion, you can play your part in rebuilding the lives of those who’ve experienced the lowest of lows.”

People who join the program will be tasked with managing and supervising volunteers during disaster recovery and will receive training in vital activities such as establishing evacuation centres and first aid.

“It’s a great way to develop leadership skills and to give back to your community,” Cr Power said.

“We’re looking for people aged 18 or over who are available to help during times of disaster that are not currently involved in emergency services as a volunteer or officer.”

An information session is on Tuesday 6 December at 6.00 pm at Marsden Library for people wanting to know more about the Logan Community Champion program.
