Yarra Ranges Council has developed a quick release small grants program for communities significantly impacted by the June 21 storms to deliver their own social and wellbeing activities around the first-year anniversary of the storm event.

Yarra Ranges Council Mayor, Jim Child said a financial contribution of up to $400 is on offer to community groups or organisations for activities that reach storm-affected residents in their community.

“The June storm affected a huge percentage of our municipality and as we approach the start of the first anniversary, it’s important to recognise that every person, family and community is at a different place in their recovery journey,” Cr Child said.

“This small grant program aims to help communities and individuals acknowledge their anniversary in a way that is meaningful for them, and to support their ongoing recovery journey.

“Events or activities should respond to an identified community need and ideally the outcome of these activities will be improved social connection and wellbeing.”

Council has allocated a total pool of $6000 for existing not-for-profit community groups and small community organisations located in storm impacted areas to host free small events/activities between Friday 27 May and Friday 24 June.

Community groups or small not-for-profit organisations can request funding of up to $400 per activity/event.

Events and or activities that have already received funding from Council are not eligible for additional funding.

Applications are due by 5pm, Thursday 7 April and must be submitted via the SmartyGrants website.
