Owners of properties listed as heritage items in Council’s Local Environmental Plan 2012 (LEP) can apply for a grant through a Community Heritage Fund established by Council and funded through the NSW Heritage Office.
The purpose of the fund is to provide grants of up to $2000 to assist with heritage conservation works. Eligible works to heritage listed properties include repair, maintenance, and restoration of missing components. Examples of suitable projects could include work on the structure of the building, verandahs, roofing, wall cladding, fences, decorative detail, painting and stormwater drainage.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Cr Simon Murray said the grant would go some way to assisting owners in the preservation and conservation of heritage properties across the Armidale Region.
“Our region is known for its wonderful heritage architecture and is a feature of our urban and rural environment,” said Cr Murray.
“These properties are often a labour of love for their owners and require regular maintenance and deep pockets when undertaking restoration. Applying for the grant could go some way to helping owners with the financial cost of conserving these properties for the future.”
Application forms and standard conditions are available on Council’s website under ‘grants and funding opportunities‘. Completed application forms must be submitted to Council by 5pm Thursday 14 May 2020.
There is limited funding available. Council expects to be able to fund only those projects that are most appropriate and achievable.
