Ian Carter AM, one of Western Australia’s most experienced community service and social change leaders, will soon take up a role as the Independent Chair of the Bentley Community Liaison Committee (BCLC).
Mr Carter’s three-year term will start on March 1, 2019. He will head the inaugural committee, forming a pivotal communication link in the Bentley 360 redevelopment project between the Department of Communities, the developer and the local community.
The new committee will also provide an avenue for community expertise and opinions to feed into the delivery of the Bentley 360 project, while ensuring they align with the project vision and objectives.
The committee will ultimately comprise up to 10 members – including the chairperson – with representatives from business, local government, schools, youth, education, health, police, social services, and residents from the culturally diverse Bentley community.
The Department of Communities is currently working with Mr Carter to identify potential committee members. The Bentley 360 project will create and support jobs while delivering a diverse mix of at least 1,500 new homes in a revitalised and connected community.
The project is expected to create more than 2,200 jobs across the course of development and inject an estimated $1.089 billion into the State’s economy during construction.

“He is a leader of social change and innovation and a leading commentator and advocate on social issues, and I welcome the wealth of experience and knowledge he will bring to the community engagement aspect of the Bentley 360 project.
“The establishment of the BCLC is part of a wider ‘place management’ approach we are piloting at Bentley 360 that is designed to deliver social and community infrastructure along with direct and targeted support services to residents.
“Through place management, Bentley 360 will drive greater social economic participation of all its residents, focusing on their long-term wellbeing through greater engagement.”
