Community Tree Planting Day

More than 1500 new trees will be planted across the Toowoomba Region this month.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community portfolio leader Councillor Tim McMahon said the Community Tree Planting Day was part of an initiative to increase the region’s urban forest population.

“The Community Tree Planting Day follows on from the success of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, held annually to inspire communities to plant trees and protect nature,” he said.

“We’re already well-known throughout Australia as the Garden City and the planting of more than 1500 trees will only enhance our reputation further.”

The Community Tree Planting Day will be held at Pittsworth’s Rotaract Park and Stenner Street Park in Middle Ridge on Saturday 29 August from 8.30-11.30am.

“This is an open event for everyone in our community,” Cr McMahon said.

“While we’d love to see a huge turnout for this, local tree enthusiasts keen to participate in the day’s activities are urged to make a booking due to COVID-19 health restrictions that are in place.”

Participants will need to bring their own gloves, trowels and drinking water with them on the day.

Enclosed shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, a broad-brimmed hat and sunscreen are also highly recommended.
