Coronavirus update 10 April

Jeremy Rockliff,Premier and Minister for Health

Overnight, Tasmania has recorded 1,414 new cases with 1,762 people recovered and released from isolation in that time.

The total number of active cases currently stands at 12,296 and we now have over 90,000 Tasmanians who have recovered from COVID-19.

There are currently 42 people in hospital with COVID and of these, 22 are being treated specifically for COVID. There is currently one person being cared for in the ICU.

Sadly, I can confirm that a woman in her 90s passed away on Friday at a Residential Aged Care Facility in the North.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the woman who has sadly passed away.

Getting a booster when you are due continues to be the best defence against COVID-19, with vaccination available at 100+ pharmacies, 100+ GPs and state-run clinics.

Those people most at risk from COVID-19 are now also eligible to receive a “winter dose” or second booster. This includes those 65 years and over, residents of aged care and disability facilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 50 and over, and people who are severely immunocompromised.

Those eligible can also get their flu shot at the same time, so I strongly recommend booking in for both doses with your GP or pharmacy at the earliest opportunity.

In addition, we continue to have one of the leading vaccination rates for children aged 5 to 11, with 64 per cent having had at least one dose and 46 per cent with two doses.

Today, children aged 5 to 11 can get vaccinated in Latrobe, Burnie, Launceston, Glenorchy, and Hobart. There will also be extra state-run vaccination clinics taking place over the Easter holidays to give even more opportunities for parents.

Please, don’t forget the important COVID safe behaviours – wash your hands and sanitise, cover coughs and sneezes and importantly, stay home and do a test if you’re unwell.
