The Murrindindi Shire 10-Year Community Vision was adopted by Council on Wednesday 28 July.
This Vision reflects the community’s long-term aspirations for the Shire and provides important guidance and direction for Council in its work. The Vision gives Council and the community a shared understanding of our preferred future.
Council’s Mayor Sandice McAulay said Council was thrilled to adopt the Community Vision.
‘The Community Vision for Murrindindi Shire emphasises the importance of inclusivity and diversity in our communities, where the needs and aspirations of people of all ages and abilities are supported. It focuses on creating vibrant, healthy and resilient communities, where residents and visitors can enjoy art, culture, sport and a variety of recreational pursuits.
‘It rightly places importance on respecting and celebrating the cultural heritage of our First Nations people, the Taungurung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
‘The Community Vision puts a clear emphasis on a future where we prioritise reducing waste, combating climate change and work to protect our natural environment, biodiversity and rural landscapes.
‘It also outlines the community’s desire to grow Murrindindi Shire through managed land development, business entrepreneurship and enhanced learning opportunities’, added Cr McAulay.
‘A huge thank you to the almost 500 community members who contributed ideas, opinions and feedback throughout the ‘Shaping Our Future’ project. Your feedback has been critical to the development of the Community Vision. It is now up to all of us to bring the Community Vision to life. Council is looking forward to working with community members, community groups, with local First Nations people, government agencies and other local organisations to deliver this Community Vision for Murrindindi Shire.
‘The Community Vision will also inform the direction for Council’s 2021-2025 Council Plan, which is currently under development. We’ll be able to share more information with you about the draft Council Plan in the coming weeks’, said Cr McAulay.
