Council Connect 12 June

Good morning, Dungog. I’m Councillor James Campbell with your weekly Council Connect.

First up, we’ve got some exciting news for the Gresford community. Construction on the new Gresford Bridge is about to get underway. Council begins pre-construction works from next week, with our construction partner, Bridge Marine and Engineering, set to officially commence major construction in early August. This is a project Council has been advocating for for many years, so it is fantastic to finally be at the stage where work is beginning. Whilst we don’t anticipate Clarence Town Bridge like traffic delays, if you’re a Gresford resident or regularly traveling through the area, please be aware that traffic management will be in place throughout construction. Visit Council’s website and sign up to the project newsletter to stay up to date on the project.

If you’re in Dungog today, you may hear the Hooke Street emergency warning siren this morning. Please don’t worry if you do. There was no emergency. Council is undertaking planned testing and maintenance from approximately 9am until midday today, so you may hear or have heard the alarm sound during this time. The siren is a really important part of Dungog’s flood warning network and helps emergency services provide timely warnings during severe weather events. Regular testing makes sure the system is ready when we need it most.

A quick reminder that today is the last day to submit an expression of interest to a residential tenancy at Alison Court. If you or someone you know is interested, make sure you get your application in before the deadline closes today. Full details of this availability are on council’s website.

Next Wednesday, Council will hold our June meeting, during which we’ll consider a large number of important issues. If you would like to find out more, please head to the agenda section of council’s website. And if you’d like to come along or have your voice heard on any number of matters up for discussion, please do come along to the meeting or schedule the time to speak at our public forum.

And finally, if you’re looking for something to do tonight, head along to The James Theatre to celebrate Boomerang Bags Dungog turning 10. This is a free community event that recognises a decade of local volunteers helping reduce waste, promote sustainability and make a positive difference in our community.

It’s a great opportunity to hear some inspiring stories, connect with others, and celebrate what has and can be achieved when communities come together. There’ll be drinks and nibbles, displays, stalls, crafts, and short presentations and screenings. The event starts at 6pm.

That’s all from me today. Thank you.
