Council to reopen playgrounds and outdoor facilities

City of Parramatta Council is reopening a range of community and public recreation facilities from today in line with the NSW Government’s staged easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment and skate parks will be available for public use in accordance with social distancing requirements, while bookings for outdoor weddings will also resume today.

“The last few months have been difficult for all of us and I’m sure many people are looking forward to using the City’s parks, playgrounds and outdoor facilities again,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“Council is doing everything it can to ensure these areas and facilities are ready for people to use safely.

“It’s important that everyone continues to practice good hygiene and observe social distancing restrictions to keep our community safe and help curb the spread of COVID-19.”

Playgrounds, Outdoor Fitness Equipment and Skate Parks

Council will begin reopening playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment and skate parks in a staged process from today.

Council officers will first inspect all outdoor equipment to ensure play spaces are safe to use.

People who use playgrounds, parks and other outdoor areas must adhere to social distancing requirements outlined by the NSW Government.

Aquatic Centres and Swimming Areas

Council plans to reopen Epping Aquatic Centre and the Macarthur Girls High School Pool at 5.30am on Monday 25 May for lap swimming only.

In line with current restrictions, there will be a limit of one swimmer per lane and not more than 10 customers in the facility at any one time.

Council is also considering additional operational changes, such as time limits and pre-booking requirements.

Tennis Courts

Council reopened tennis courts from Thursday 23 April in line with advice from the Office of Local Government.

From today, doubles play, intra and inter-club competition and group coaching in small numbers (4:1 player/coach ratio), will resume.

Restrictions continue to apply, including social distancing requirements; maintenance of good personal hygiene; and observation of Public Health Orders.

Outdoor Weddings

Council will resume bookings for weddings in parks and reserves from today in line with the following restrictions:

  • Gatherings of no more than 10 wedding guests;
  • Terms and Conditions to include a requirement to comply with all Public Health Orders and directions on physical distancing; and
  • Contact information of wedding attendees is recorded.

Council is monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will continue to provide updates through social media and its website.

We are also continuing to follow advice from the Federal and NSW governments about the operation of our facilities and when they can reopen.
