Council welcomes exhibition of Warragamba Dam Raising Environmental Impact Statement

Council welcomes the news that the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) drafted as part of the State Government’s plan to raise the height of the Warragamba Dam wall has been released to the public.

The EIS was released to the public this week, and can be viewed at www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/major-projects/project/10571

Release of this important document for public comment allows Council and the community to understand the potential impacts this project would have on the Hawkesbury region, as well as upstream from the dam.

Hawkesbury City Mayor Patrick Conolly said Council will now carefully review the EIS before forming its position on the Warragamba Dam wall proposal.

“As a region downstream from the dam we need to be very mindful of the potential impacts from flooding, and the impacts to the environment. The flood events in February 2020 and March 2021 served as a reminder of the types of significant impacts that flooding has on our community,” Mayor Conolly said.

“Council will now review the EIS and will consider its formal position on the project in time to make a submission to WaterNSW.”

The EIS is on public exhibition for 45 days from Wednesday, 29 September 2021.

Additional information on the project will be available from Thursday, 30 September 2021 at www.waternsw.com.au/wdr and includes a virtual engagement room, videos and animations.

WaterNSW will also be hosting a series of online information sessions during the exhibition period, the details of which will be published on the web site.
