COVID-19 – Infringement notices 14 June

Northern Territory Police have issued two infringement notices for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011.

Two men, aged 27 and 28, arrived in Darwin from Queensland on Friday 5 June. Police conducted a compliance check on the pair on Saturday 13 June and found they were not at home.

The infringement penalty for an individual is $1,099 and $5,495 for a business.

NT Police and Environmental Health Officers continue to undertake compliance activities.

15,972 compliance checks have now been completed and 66 fines issued.

Incident Controller Commander David Proctor said that even though the quarantine rules will change from tomorrow, there is still a risk of COVID-19 to the community.

“Even though persons will be allowed to nominate to quarantine at a residential address, they are still required to adhere to quarantine requirements.

“Police will be continuing compliance checks to ensure that the ongoing risk of community transmission is mitigated. Any non-compliance with quarantine procedures that creates a risk to the community will not be tolerated”.
