One man has been arrested at the scene of a two vehicle collision in Cranbourne that has left two people deceased.
It is believed the vehicles collided on South Gippsland Highway near Camms Road just after 4pm, the exact circumstances are yet to be determined at this stage.
The driver from the blue Commodore, which is believed to be stolen, is alleged to have attempted to run from the scene but was restrained by a passerby until police arrived.
He is currently in hospital under police guard.
Two of the four passengers in the allegedly stolen vehicle have died at the scene, two are in a critical condition.
The occupants of the other vehicle, two adults and two children are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The South Gippsland Highway southband will be closed for some time while Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives investigate.
