Take a trip around the world, watch art come to life before your eyes, learn traditional dances and eat amazing food – all without ever leaving Camden!
Camden’s rich cultural diversity has been on show recently at Council’s Camden Culture Club event, with two more sessions left to enjoy on Friday 22 and 29 April 2022.
The four-part program has seen Alan Baker Art Gallery come to life with special live public art installations, a makers market, musical performances, culinary temptations and art demonstrations.
Local artist Michael Fardon said Camden Culture Club was a great way to bring people together to experience different cultures through art, music and food.
“Culture is so important, it is all around us, it is an essential part of our being and it defines the way we treat others and ourselves,” Mr Fardon said.
“The event is very important as it shows that Council cares and wants to showcase diversity within the Camden community. I think it has been very successful so far and it should be an annual event for many years to come.”
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said there was something for everyone to enjoy.
“Camden is home to so many talented artists in several fields and it has been fantastic to be able to shine the spotlight on them through Camden Culture Club,” Cr Fedeli said.
“I have to say, the multicultural aspect of this event is a personal favourite of mine. In celebration of Multicultural March, and with the support of the Cohesive Communities Advisory Committee, each event has had multicultural themes explored through all the activities and performances on the night.
“The first event had an Indian theme and, as you can imagine, the dancing and the music was just amazing. The second event had a Mediterranean theme and, as an Italian myself, I will have to be biased and say the food was incredible!
“Camden Culture Club has been quite popular already and I encourage everyone to get involved and celebrate the great culture living amongst us in Camden.”
The next event, which is scheduled for Friday 22 April, 6-9pm, at the Alan Baker Art Gallery, will include:
- Makers’ markets featuring Richard J Bell, Studio B and Cobbitty Gallery;
- Live art created by talented artists Belle Mitchell, Michael Fardon and Melissa Barton;
- Live music, including a saxophone performance;
- Dance performances; and
- ‘Life, Love and Light’ art exhibition at Alan Baker Art Gallery.
Ticketholders for next week’s event will receive a complimentary drink, tasting box by Back Galley Cafe and dessert by The House of Art – but those who are interested are encouraged to get in quick as there’s only a limited amount available.
If tickets do sell out online, residents are still encouraged to come along – you don’t need a ticket to enjoy the festivities.
Camden Culture Club is hosted by Council, with the support of NSW Government’s The Festival of Place – Summer Fund Program.
