Dame Roma Mitchell Grants helping young people with a care experience achieve their dreams

The Liberal Government is urging young people with a care experience to apply for the new round of Dame Roma Mitchell Grants to help them study and live independently.

The grants, which are available for eligible young people under the age of 30, provide a range of social, self-development and professional opportunities.

The second grant round for the year is now open, with applications closing on Monday 23 September 2019.

Minister for Child Protection Rachel Sanderson encouraged eligible young people to apply for the grants.

“I urge young people who have experienced time in care to apply for this year’s round of Dame Roma Mitchell Grants,” said Minister Sanderson.

“The Dame Roma Mitchell Grants help young people with a care experience achieve personal goals, contribute to their health and wellbeing and embark on a range of personal development opportunities.

“We know that transitioning into adulthood can be a daunting time for young people in care.

“These grants provide them with the necessary supports to embark confidently into the next phase of their life and consider what professional or social endeavours they may want to pursue.”

The grants are primarily accessed by young people aged 18-25 who have transitioned to independent living, as well as those living in kinship, foster and residential care.

Young people aged under 30, with a care experience, may be eligible for the grants. More details about eligibility and how to apply is available at www.sa.gov.au
