Dangerous driving and assault charges at Durack, QLD

Detectives have charged a 17-year-old boy after he allegedly threatened a woman and tried to steal her car at Durack overnight.

It will be alleged around 1pm on Saturday a male forced the front door of a Brendford Street, Richlands unit and removed a set of keys before stealing the residents Mazda sedan that was parked in front of the unit.

At 8.50pm police observed the vehicle travelling in Inala and Polair commenced tracking the vehicle to Moorooka. The vehicle then headed back to Inala at speed and police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Poinsettia Street, Inala at 9.49pm. The vehicle came to a stop on King Street at Durack and the driver fled the vehicle.

He then approached a 63-year-old woman who was parked in her car nearby. He threatened the woman with a knife, demanding her car. A 61-year-old man came to the assistance of the woman and scuffle with the teenager ensured during which the man received a minor cut to his hand. The teenager fled the scene but was located by police nearby a short time later.

A 17-year-old Acacia Ridge boy has been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, attempted armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle, burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of tainted property and unlicensed driving.

He will appear in the Richlands Magistrates Court tomorrow, February 21.
