Darwinites invited to community planting day

Darwin City Council

City Residents will join forces to green a corner of the suburbs in a City of Darwin initiative to make our city greener.

Chief Executive Officer Simone Saunders said City of Darwin will make 1500 native plants available for a community planting day at Muirhead this Saturday.

“These events are a great opportunity for the community to come together and plant native trees to benefit our environment,” Ms Saunders said.

“The area we are targeting with our planting day this Saturday has suffered the effects of both cyclones and bushfires, resulting in significant degradation of the native bushland.

“We’d love to see as many people as possible come along and to help rehabilitate the native bushland and make Darwin just that little bit greener.”

Ms Saunders said in addition to the 1500 plants at Saturday’s event, City of Darwin will have given away more than 10,000 plants through its Native Plant Giveaways in 2022.

The community planting day will take place 8am-11am on Saturday. People who want to be involved should come to the Lefevre St Park, Muirhead. People can also park along Ward Crescent, or off-street parking is available on Fitzmaurice Drive, with a short walk to the planting site.

Everyone should bring sunscreen, wear a hat and enclosed shoes. Water will be available at the event.
