A Tasmanian woman has been arrested and charged following the seizure of methylamphetamine (ICE), which had the potential to put more than 1000 people in our community at risk.
Approximately 112 grams or 4 ounces of the drug, which could have resulted in 1170 street deals, was seized after police were alerted to a suspicious package at an Australia Post mail sorting centre on Friday 28 July 2023.
As part of the police investigation, a 45 year old Devonport woman was arrested on 31 July.
Subsequent searches resulted in further seizures of ICE, cannabis, and alleged evidence of the importation of ICE into Tasmania.
The woman has been charged with serious drug offences including Trafficking in Controlled Substance and Unlawfully Importing a Controlled Substance and detained to appear in court.
Western District Commander Stuart Wilkinson said Tasmania Police was committed to targeting the supply of illicit drugs, and protecting the community.
“These are highly addictive drugs, and cause significant damage when distributed throughout the community,” Commander Wilkinson said.
“We will continue to target criminals involved in the manufacture and distribution of drugs.”
